Bedford's brand new, purpose-built Learning and Experiences Hub in Mount Gambier, offering skill-based learning and experiences to NDIS participants in the region is now open.

We have new service offerings and specialised programs designed to meet the individual goals for clients with Core funding in their NDIS plans.

The Learning and Experiences Hub has a focus on skills-based learning to help clients gain increased independence and create job pathways. Learning themes include living, work and personal interests.

There is a huge custom-made teaching kitchen, an art space, IT suite, woodwork space and chill out room. The programs are run in-house as well as in the community to suit individual client needs and interests.

Activities offered include cooking, gardening, woodworking and technology as well as creative arts such as painting, pottery, music and singing.

For NDIS participants who are 18 years and over that are looking to participate in skill-based or social programs, we offer a wide range of options to suit their individual needs.

Mount Gambier Operating Hours

The site will be open from 8am to 4pm, our Learning Hub programs will operate from 9am to 3pm. Experience programs will operate outside of the Learning Hub hours, eg: 3pm to 6pm for cooking, technology, and art classes. This is to accommodate those who are working or have other commitments on during the day and would still like to participate. There will also be a weekend Experience program with a focus on community engagement and relationship building.

What is the Learning and Experiences Hub?

Bedford’s new Learning & Experiences Hub offers skill-based learning programs for adults living with a disability. There are a range of activities offered to help clients gain increased independence and create job pathways, as well as catering to personal interests and providing social experiences.

Where is the Learning and Experiences Hub?

The Learning and Experiences Hub is co-located at Bedford’s timber mill, 38 Attamurra Rd, Glenburnie.

How much does it cost? Is it funded through my NDIS plan?

If your NDIS plan includes Core funding for social and community participation, you can access Bedford’s Learning and Experience programs. If you do not have NDIS funding in this area but would like to join in, you can do so by self-funding your supports and services.

For certain activities, there may be a small additional cost, for example to help fund art supplies or groceries for cooking. This will vary depending on the programs offered.

What is the ratio of DSWs to clients?

Mt Gambier’s Learning and Experiences provide a 1:4 model. We can also support clients through our programs at a 1:1 model.

What does a typical day look like?

The hub will offer a 12-week program with a wide range of activities such as cooking, art, sewing, sports, gardening, woodworking and technology classes. The client has choice and control over the program they select for the 12 weeks.

How many clients attend the sessions?

The size of the group is often no more than 8-12 clients.

What days and times does the program run?

Attending sessions allow participants to learn new skills, meet new people and have enjoyable, rewarding experiences. It is also a great way to achieve independence though development of life skills such as cooking or gardening and learning about technology, as well as developing skills to help with career pathways.
