New Life Members

Bedford Life Memberships are awarded to people who have displayed outstanding service to Bedford, or to the disability sector (often both) and who, through their efforts, have contributed significantly to supporting people with disability. They may have achieved this through long-term volunteering, tireless campaigning, or through exemplary work at Bedford, in government or the disability sector.

We are thrilled to welcome six new Life Members to our ranks in 2023, each of whom have displayed commitment and energy to supporting Bedford and the disability sector over many years of outstanding service.

Stephen Hains AM - 11 years of service

Raymond Grigg - 14 years of service

Peter Roodhouse - 40 years of service
Volunteer in the disability sector

  • Parent of Matt Roodhouse (ex-Bedford employee)
  • Creation and securing funding to start a Special Education Unit at Cabra - St Mary's Unit. 1982
  • Board member on DAIDP


Kenneth Jenkins – conveyed posthumously – 18 years of service
Volunteer in the disability sector

  • Influenced Bedford away from Tuberculosis Care to become a diversified rehabilitation centre ensuring company viability – post 1961
  • Chairman of the Workshops for the Disabled in Australia and a member of the executive committee of the Australian Council for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled 1967
  • Bedford Chair 1968-1978
  • Only Australian representative on the World Commission of Vocational Rehabilitation
    Awarded Officer of the Order of Australia 1981

Wayne McKeon – 55 years of service
Volunteer in the disability sector and Heritage Directorships:

  • As a transport owner, first came into contact with Heritage (which later joined Bedford in 2010) delivering loads of timber – provided his transport services at no cost up to 1998
  • Heritage Board Member in early 2000’s
    Heritage Board Chairman 2010
  • Continues to volunteer services by undertaking maintenance, mowing and fixing bikes
