There’s so much more to come in 2021 for our Community Access and Lifestyle (CAL) program thanks to Bedford’s newest team member Julia.
With a background in educational disability, Julia joined the team six months ago to expand Bedford’s CAL program and ensure we lead the way in best practice in the disability sector, with a focus on digital literacy and our healthy cooking program.
“I’ve been in the disability sector for 10 years, working as a special education teacher in a disability unit at a school for six years,” Julia said.
“I’m utilising a lot of the skills and resources I developed within the classroom and adapting them to the setting within CAL.
“We provide support to help clients’ expand their skillset. I’m all about education and continuous lifelong learning. Having that skillset has helped us grow our CAL programs here at Bedford.”
As for the future, it’s looking very exciting for our CAL programs as we expand to be bigger and better than ever!
“We’re expanding our current programs, including our technology program to incorporate more mstructure and ability to measure outcomes.
“Our cooking classes now focus on learning a new skill each month and I’m also developing resources and materials to teach our clients a range of skills when it comes to cooking. Currently we have over 1000 resources available for our disability support workers to utilise with our clients.”
